HP officlally launch its long-awaited Windows 7-powered HP Slate 500, which became a subject of controversy throughout the year. It was first unveiled by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer at CES 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada. A few teaser videos were later released. Details were also leaked in the months after the event. At one point, rumor had it that HP had killed the device. Then, the HP Slate 500 was found in a HP database. And here were are now. The HP Slate 500 is now official.
Along its struggles there were some changes though. As you may recall, the HP Slate 500 was originally intended for consumers. However, the device is now aimed at businesses and enterprise.
According to HP, the HP Slate 500 will be made available for $799. The device will come bundled with HP Slate Digital Pen [stylus], HP Slate Dock, and HP Slate Portfolio [case]. The HP Slate will be sold directly by HP on its website at www.hp.com/go/slate.
As we had previously learned, the HP Slate 500 will feature a 8.9-inch capacitive multi-touch display, 1.86GHz Intel Atom Z540 processor, 2GB of RAM, 64GB SSD, and dual-cameras. It also includes the Wacom active digitizer in order to easily take notes. While the device is aimed at enterprise, anyone with an extra $799 in their wallet can purchase the device.
