Apple announced their brand new iPad tablet (iPad2) on Wednesday, and I’d just like to offer some brief thoughts on this device.
First, I’m really pleased that Apple CEO Steve Jobs could make the announcement. Although he’s very thin, he appears to be in good health and spirits — which is really all I can ask for from a man who’s responsible for such a successful company.
The iPad 2 itself. It’s thinner, faster, and sports cameras with FaceTime. Not a surprising move on Apple’s part. A small step forward, I would say, but overall, I didn’t see any major improvements. The display is the same as on the first-generation iPad. Same technology, same resolution. The form factor, however, I do like. While I haven’t held an iPad 2, it appears to be something that’s a bit less annoying to carry around and use. I wish that Apple would have done something with that wide front bezel, though.
For the folks with an iPad first-gen: keep it. Unless you really want to keep to date, I’d say you would be fine using it moving forward (until iPad 3 comes out, I suppose).
As for me, I’ve listed my iPad on eBay and will use the money toward an iPad 2 purchase.
What are your thoughts on the iPad 2?
