Apple updated its MobileMe iDisk application to version 1.2 almost one month ago. However, it wasn’t until now that a new feature has been discovered. We’re talking about the ability to stream music directly from a user’s iDisk, which is web-based hosting service by Apple for MobileMe members. Additionally, music streaming works in the background utilizing the newly-introduced multitasking feature in iOS 4.0. The official changelog states that you can “play audio from your iDisk while using another app.”
Now, it’s unknown why Apple has enable the ability to stream music, as record labels require companies to obtain a license to allow music streaming. That’s one of the reasons why the so-called iTunes in the cloud has not been launched. Speaking of, this newly-found MobileMe iDisk ability could definitely be the very beginning of a cloud-based iTunes, and the main reason why Apple acquired music streaming service Lala.
At this point, it’s unknown whether or not any record labels and even the Recording Industry Association of America [RIAA] will step forward to end Apple’s defiance now that the MobileMe iDisk music streaming feature has been outed.
