MobileStudio is a powerful file manager for the iPhone, with talents that go beyond merely organizing documents and folders. For power users who could use a little more control over the handling of files on the handset, it could prove a truly indispensable tool; for those with more average requirements, though, it’s probably overkill.
On first launch, the app comes with five default folders for Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sample Files. You can add and remove as many others as you’d like, as well as customize various settings for each. Each folder can be set such that it will automatically configure all files under the directory to comply (e.g. setting all files in the folder to be non-executable).
It offers a powerful way to handle files, allowing users Explorer-like abilities to move and copy files from one folder to another, as well as to perform compression and decompression functions. You can create a wide variety of files directly from the interface (text, image, sound), apart from viewing them within the app. It bundles in a viewers for text, images, web pages, audio and video, along with some basic editors for them. Alternatively, you can launch the files’ respective editors directly from the app.
Users can also move files wirelessly between the PC and the handset, provided there is live internet connection for both devices. The process basically sends the file to MobileStudio’s servers via FTP, then downloads them to the iPhone from the app’s interface.
If you find the iPhone’s file management a little lacking, the $1.99 Pixio MobileStudio should offer a more comprehensive alternative that really makes the phone feel like more of an actual computer than ever.
