Just days after hacker GeoHot claimed that he had managed to jailbreak his iPhone 4, iPhone Dev Team members MuscleNerd and PlanetBeing have successfully unlocked the iPhone 4. To prove their accomplishment, PlanetBeing sent out a couple of tweets accompanied by photos of the unlocked iPhone 4 connected to Bell Canada and running Cydia.
A new baseband on the U.S. iPhone 4 for AT&T required hackers developers to rewrite the entire ultrasn0w software to be able to unlock the device. These two clever guys managed to do just that. Unfortunately, the unlock tools are not quite available for the public just yet. We’d say the team will release the tools after Apple releases its iOS 4 software update. You know, just in case it includes a patch to block their efforts. We’ll definitely keep on top of things, and let you know as soon as these tools become available.
