It’s official: AT&T has halted pre-orders on Apple’s iPhone 4 smartphone due to what we presume to be overwhelming demand. Just earlier today, we reported that Apple had stopped accepting pre-orders for the device on their website, but no official explanation was offered.
The other Apple stores in different countries where iPhone 4 was launched on 15 June, 2010 are also claiming that iPhone 4 demand is much much more then the expected as report from Germany cited that the iPhone 4 demand is 10 times grater as compare to iPhone 3GS which was launched in 2009.
Because of bulk amount of pressure on servers to collect iPhone pre-order there were different problems occurred with different companies systems who were involved in collecting iPhone 4 pre-order but the most worse iPhone 4 pre-order disaster was reported for AT&T system about which they did not speak any word officially.
The halt has been described as a “temporary suspension” in an internal AT&T memo, and does not make note as to when pre-ordering/ordering will commence:
Pre-orders for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS 8GB are Temporarily Suspended
Effective close of business on June 15, 2010, the ability to place pre-orders (new activations, upgrades and exchanges) has been temporarily suspended. There is a special team that will be manually working all pre-orders from June 15th that were held in a pending status. Under no circumstances should new pre-orders be attempted in the system.
This suspension impacts Phoenix, Premier, OPUS (COR), and System X (DMDR).
Please stay tuned to future bulletin communications for any updates.
