Verizon Wireless has now launched a brand-spanking-new push-to-talk feature (similar to that seen on Nextel) out of the blue.
The download is free, however, in order to use the service, end-users must pay an additional $5 fee per month. The application allows for unlimited nationwide calls to other folks who are also using push-to-talk. Users are able to make group calls with up to 50 individuals (yeah, that’ll go well!), utilize a feature named ‘Presence’ to see which of your contacts can be reached via push-to-talk, manage contacts online (for business owners), and perhaps most surprising — access to email services whilst engaged in a push-to-talk conversation.
Of course — then comes the question of value. $5 today is very little, so is it worth it for push-to-talk? We’re going to say yes — but only if a significant amount of your contacts are using it. If you do not know anybody using push-to-talk, it’s certainly going to be money misspent.
