Google has begun testing a new Friends section on its Google News homepage that would allow individuals to see news articles shared by their followers. Now, we’re learning that the company is testing a new feature that allows users to preview each search result prior to visiting the page by simply clicking on a magnifying glass icon next to each result.
As you can see in the screenshot above — which was sent to blog Google Operating System by one of their readers — the feature is pretty similar to the Ask.com Binoculars feature. However, the Google feature goes on the extra mile to highlight and even magnify relevant bits of text within the preview window.
Google has previously indicated that they run “from 50 to 200 experiments at any given time on [their] websites all over the world.” Whether this feature will pass the test is currently unknown.
