Plenty of information has apparently been leaked regarding the Verizon Wireless roadmap of 2010-2011 and even part of 2012. It appears that the Basking Ridge, New Jersey-based wireless carrier has big plans for the coming years. Its commitment to the Android platform appears to be stronger than ever despite rumors of a Verizon Wireless iPhone coming in January.
According to BGR, who received the information from one of their Verizon Wireless sources, here is what’s in store:
- Motorola will apparently launch a new Android-powered smartphone called the Motorola Droid Pro. The device will allegedly feature a 1.3GHz processor, 4-inch display, and global roaming capabilities. Estimated launch of November 2010
- Motorola is also said to be working in partnership with Verizon Wireless on a “slab form-factor” Android-powered device that resembles the Motorola Q, but will feature a full touchscreen and global roaming capabilities. It’s highly likely that the device will be a lower cost MotoBlur handset.
- Verizon Wireless is expected to carry more Android-powered devices by the end of this year, including a global Android smartphone from both Samsung and HTC.
- Samsung is said to be working on a 7-inch screen Android-powered tablet with front-facing camera.
- As we have previously heard, Motorola is also working on a tablet that will run on Android 3.0 [Gingerbread] and will feature a 10-inch display, either 1GHz or 1.3GHz processor, and a front-facing camera. The original released date was expected to be sometime in Q4, but it appears that Android 3.0 might delay availability until February 2011.
- Verizon Wireless is currently aiming to make LTE coverage available in at least 75% of the United States by April 2012. The carrier is said to be on track to meet its goals.
- A new Novatel LTE MiFi device is expected to be released sometime in January or February. The device will allegedly create a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 10 devices.
- LTE broadband data pricing will apparently remain at $59.99 per month. It’s unknown what exactly the data allowance will be.
There you have it, folks. No mention of the iPhone being made available in January. Additionally, it seems that even if the iPhone is offered by Verizon Wireless next year, the carrier will continue to embrace the Android platform. We can also expect Verizon Wireless to offer the upcoming BlackBerry Storm 3, which is said to be one of the first LTE smartphones on Verizon Wireless.
We just have to wait patiently for now.
