Now that you’ve got that shiny new iPad, you’re going to need something to carry it in, right? I mean, you’re not seriously going to let your gadget brave the elements, are you?
We didn’t think so — and we know you’re probably looking for a good case to transport your iPad in. I’m here to tell you that I think I’ve found it.
See, over the past week I’ve been using one of Otterbox’s iPad Defender Series cases. Let me tell you, I am beyond impressed. Seriously. It’s that good.
First and foremost, the case is aimed toward folks who really want to protect their iPads from just about everything. The case comes with three layers of protection (the device is shielded by hard plastic, followed by silicone, and a third plastic cover and screen protector), which give your iPad the look as if it’s being sent into a war zone. Fortunately, it most likely isn’t, and the additional bulk the case puts on gives the end user a fantastic grip on the device.
The hard plastic cover shield also serves as a built-in stand for your iPad, which from my testing has proven to be sturdy and reliable. In my personal testing, I did not use the display protector (sort of like Invisible Shield) included (which also comes with a great felt cleaning cloth).
I will say that I have not dropped my iPad using this case (on purpose, of course), but it’s said to be the toughest and most durable cases on the market. I believe it. The build quality is perfection. Really.
It’s safe to say that I loved nearly everything about this case with the exception of two items. The first of which was the difficult install. You’ll be spending a few minutes making sure the silicon covering is attached at all points. Second, the price. These cases can be purchased from Otterbox for $89.95, though you can pick one up for cheaper if you look around. Fortunately, we’ve got you covered. We’ll be posting up a contest very soon, and we’ll be giving one away.
Overall, I’m completely satisfied with the the case itself. It works as advertised. It’s tough and may even improve the way you physically interact with your iPad. It’s great.
But I’d like to see the price on these go down, at which point in time I’m sure users will flock to the Defender case. The install was stressful, but only for about three minutes (keep in mind, some folks have called me about as smart as a rock, so perhaps that has something to do with it!).
Get one. You’ll love it.
