There’s no doubt about it, Google’s Android mobile operating system is a success. The adoption is increasingly rapidly, users are seemingly loving it, and manufacturers are too.
So it should come as no surprise when research group NPD released statistics noting that Android devices are in the lead in the smartphone market. That’s right, the firm indicates that Android makes up a whopping 33 percent of all smartphones sold in the second quarter of 2010. Trailing close behind is Canada-based Research In Motion [BlackBerry devices], and in third place, Apple’s iPhone, at 22 percent.
The most popular devices from 1st to last place? Motorola Droid, HTC Droid Incredible, HTC EVO 4G, HTC Hero, and HTC Droid Eris.
Analysts predict the platform will continue to be adopted by more and more mobile phone users. The variety is plenty in terms of both devices and wireless carriers.
