Evidence that the fourth-generation iPod Touch will include a front-facing FaceTime camera is mounting. Just yesterday, alleged images of an iPod Touch 4G bezel with a front-facing camera hole surfaced. Now, it has been discovered that the iOS 4 Beta 3, which was made available on Tuesday to registered developers, offers email-based FaceTime support. Users are allowed to choose between a phone number or an email address to make FaceTime calls, as pictured above.
Now, considering that Apple mobile devices such as the iPod Touch and iPad are not assigned phone numbers for obvious reasons, it makes sense to make FaceTime calls available using just an email address. The most important fact here is that it’s looking very likely that the next generation iPod Touch will indeed be equipped with front-facing cameras.
Apple usually introduces new iPod and iPod Touch models in September at its annual media event in San Francisco, California. However, a rumor today suggest that the company will hold the even in mid-August. More specifically around August 16.
