Did Apple’s public relations group knowingly lie to several news outlets about the recent Steve Jobs/irate customer email thread? That’s the question that’s on the minds of many at this very moment.
See, despite the fact that California-based Apple may have said that the alleged original email correspondence between Steve Jobs and an Apple customer was fabricated, Boy Genius of Boy Genius Report has fired back, insisting the correspondence they paid “a nominal fee of a couple hundred dollars” for is legitimate.
“I believe 100% these emails are real,” said Boy Genius, known publicly now as Jonathan Geller.
Provided the email exchanges are legitimate, that would mean that Apple was flat-out lying to both Fortune and Engadget. This — for a public relations group that seemingly ignores many requests by members of the press — is a major no-no. Many aren’t putting this past Apple, however.
As one would expect, Apple has not yet commented on the situation — presumably holding a statement until they run it past Jobs for final approval prior to release.
More information is to come. See Geller’s full post here.
