It’s hard to believe it’s been two years — but that it has. Today 2nd Birthday of Apples App Store. What started out as a mere experiment to see if users would engage more with their smartphones has turned into a worldwide revolutions. Mobile companies left and right have scrambled to replicate the App Store’s success — and few have succeeded.
Over 225,000 applications, forty-thousand publishers, billions of downloads, and over $1 billion in revenue, the App Store is very much alive and kicking. Certainly a long, long way from July 10th, 2008, when the App Store launched with 500 applications.
In addition, tomorrow [July 11th] marks the launch date of the iPhone 3G and the availability of what was then known as iPhone OS 2.0 [now known as iOS 2.0].
