Apple has sold a huge amount of iPhone 4 units. Unfortunately, we won’t know the exact number of units sold on launch day until the company officially releases a statement with sales figures. However, Oppenheimer senior analyst Yair Reiner estimates in a note sent to clients today that Apple managed to sold 1.5 million devices thus far.
Reiner breaks down the number in the following manner:
- 600,000 pre-ordered in the U.S.
- plus 100,000 non- reserved units sold day of at Apple stores (average 500 per store)
- plus 50,000 sold into Best Buy (~45 per store, according to our checks).
- Then multiply by two for international.
On the other hand, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster estimates that Apple sold between 1 million to 1.5 million iPhone 4 units. It’s important to take into account that Munster has been wrong most of the time. His predictions are usually too high and way off.
