Since 1979 global land surface is getting warmer by 0.13 to 0.22°C every decade. It means by end of this century land surface could get warmer by near 3°C or more, if trend continues. Do you know what that implies?
It implies crumpled food security and receding habitable land mass. With current trend, South African countries would produce 30% less maize by 2030. South Asia would suffer 10% loss of rice production. By 2080, tropical and sub-tropical food baskets would go down 30 to 40%.
Rapid industrialization is the sole reason. We are adding the least but taking out the most from nature. For instance, let’s talk about outdoor advertising and how bad it’s for the environment.
Major conventional outdoor advertising solutions today are bulletin billboards, leaflets, banners, posters, and wallscapes.
Are they friendly to environment? Do they cause global warming? Surely yes!
1. Road side billboards often cause excessive tree cutting. Besides cutting of trees billboard companies also cause intentional tree poisoning to avoid direct clearing.
2. Static outdoor adverts require replacement every time you need to change your advertising message. That causes wastage of consumables.
3. Paints used in conventional adverts contain organic volatile compounds, heavy metal and non-recyclable oils. They cause environment degradation.
4. Paper production emits almost all kinds of green houses gases like, nitrogen oxide, sulfur oxide and carbon oxides. Paper industry alone is the 4th biggest contributor to green house gases in US.
5. Only 6% of recycled paper is used in printing. Only 30% of newspapers prints consume recycled paper.
6. Plantation forests supplying resources to paper pulp mills are mostly monoculture type. That doesn’t cause much good to environment. Over 40% of industrial wood harvest goes into paper production.
7. Paper wastes contribute 40% of solid wastes in US alone, quite taxing to existing landfill sites. Add to that 400% increase in paper use over last 40 years.
Do you still favor conventional outdoor adverting? You better change.
Efficient and greener solution is digitization. Why do we say so?
1. Digital signage requires least consumables. You don’t need to discard cloth or paper banners, posters and billboards every time you need changing adverts. It also means no more paint-related wastes and pollutions.
2. Digital signage is better place-based media solution. You can reach out to variety of effective consumer touch points. No need to encroach natural greeneries!
3. You don’t emit green house and toxic gases any more and you consume least non-renewable resource.
Promote your business on digital signage systems. Save your world. Secure the future.
