Google announced today on the Official Google Mobile Blog that its popular Google Goggles service has become available for auto-focus camera equipped iOS 4.0 devices such as the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 as part of the official Google Mobile App for iPhone [iTunes Link]. Google Goggles was first introduced in December of 2009 on the Android mobile platform.
Google Goggles allows to search for information by just taking a photo of a certain object such as books, wines, artwork, landmarks, and more. The service utilizes advanced visual search and optical character recognition [OCR] technologies to identify the item in question.
To use Google Goggles, users must tap the camera icon on the Google Mobile App. From there, individuals must point the camera to the object they need to find out details about.
Do take into account that Google Goggles is still part of the Google Labs as an experimental product. Unfortunately, the application requires an auto-focus camera, which is why is not available for the iPad or iPod Touch. Additionally, the application is only available in English at the moment.
Visit the iTunes App Store to download the new Google Mobile App with Google Goggles.
