Love the BBC? Have a smartphone running Android 2.2? Today’s your lucky day. The British Broadcasting Corporation last week announced the immediate availability of their now-famous iPlayer for Android 2.2 smartphone devices.
“Over the last few months I’ve been working with Adobe to bring their new Flash 10.1streaming to BBC iPlayer on mobile on Google Android 2.2 (‘FroYo’) devices.
We’ve adapted the Flash based embedded media player (EMP) that you see right across the BBC website to work on the small screen and created a 400 kbps Flash stream to provide a really good playback experience,” wrote David Madden of the BBC Internet blog.
Users looking to take advantage of the new feature will be able to visit www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer to watch programming via their mobile browser. A note: iPlayer will only work on a WiFi connection, as opposed to over a 3G connection.
