While we’ve known all along that Skype was coming exclusively to Verizon Wireless sometime this month, we didn’t know the exact roll out date. Fortunately, Skype has announced today on its blog that Skype Mobile will be available for Verizon Wireless customers on this Thursday, March 25th. As many of you might know, the application will be initially available on a few selected 3G smartphones only.
Skype announced back in February that they’d be partnering with Verizon for a carrier-endorsed release of their mobile app, and they’re wasting no time bringing said partnership to fruition. Skype for Verizon will be launching on BlackBerry and Android handsets tomorrow, Thursday the 25th.
Remember: this version of the app works over Verizon’s data network, saving you precious minutes without forcing you to find a WiFi hotspot. If you’ve never signed yourself up for Skype and tracked down all of your friends, now’s probably a good time.
According to Skype, the application will allow Verizon Wireless customers with 3G smartphones and a data plan to:
- make and receive unlimited Skype-to-Skype voice calls to anyone else on Skype around the globe [at not cost]
- send and receive unlimited instant messages with other people on Skype [at no cost]
- call international phone numbers at our low rates
Make you way past the break to see a full list of supported devices.
- BlackBerry Storm 9530
- BlackBerry Storm2
- BlackBerry Curve 8330
- BlackBerry Curve 8530
- BlackBerry Curve 8830 World Edition
- BlackBerry Tour 9630

Skype expects to add more devices and platforms in the near future. We’ll update as soon as the Skype Mobile application becomes available on Thursday. Stay tuned.
