TodayYouTube announced 4K video support plan, a video format with a 4096 x 3072 resolution — also known as 4096p. This might be aimed to just a few individuals, considering that 4K cameras are nothing short of expensive. The ideal screen size to watch a 4K video is a 25-foot display. Additionally, YouTube indicates that a super fast broadband connection is required in order to load 4096p videos.
Additionally, YouTube announced both at VidCon 2010 and on The Official YouTube Blog its new Partner Grant Program, which aims to help the growth of original content on the site by funding the most innovative of its more than 10,000 partners. YouTube explains that these funds “will serve as an advance against the partner’s future YouTube revenue share.” In other words, this more of an investment than anything else.
According to YouTube, this is how the Partner Grant Program works:
- YouTube is identifying eligible partners based on factors such as video views, subscribers, growth rate, audience engagement and production expertise
- Selected partners are contacted by YouTube and invited to submit a Grant proposal
- Proposals are evaluated by YouTube based on signals which include projected performance, distribution plan, marketing plan, cost requirements and appeal to advertisers
- If approved, funds are transferred to the partner so they can get started on their project
This has been a super busy week for the popular video-sharing site, who introduced its new HTML5-based mobile website and the new YouTube Leanback earlier this week.
