Well, what do you know? Apple is currently looking to hire experienced antenna engineers. The Cupertino-based company has posted three different job listings on its website. The curious part is that the three job listings were posted on June 23, which is the very same day that individuals began reporting antenna issues with the iPhone 4.
It’s currently unknown whether these engineers, once they’re hired, will work on the current iPhone 4 and its reception problems, or if they’ll just work on the next version of the iPhone, which could be released next year. Do take into account that the position also includes working on the iPad antennae as well. This could suggest that Apple is not really looking to have these engineers work on the current reception issues of the iPhone 4.
The job is described as follows:
“Define and implement antenna system architecture to optimize the radiation performance for wireless portable devices. The candidate should be able to design antennas suitable for wireless handheld devices with excellent radiation performance, including TRP, TIS, SAR, and EMC. Work closely with other RF and antenna design engineers, mechanical and industrial designers, and EMC engineers to integrate the antenna design in our products. The candidate will be expected to performance radiation performance measurements, create test plans, execute them, publish test reports, provide feedback to the other design engineers, and lead some of the manufacturing of antenna.”
To me, that sounds as if Apple is looking for someone to work on future products. Then again, the company could be describing the position in that way to mislead the media. After all, Apple maintains its position that nothing is really wrong with the iPhone 4. Just yesterday, we published an internal troubleshooting guide that tells Apple retail employees how to deal with affected customers.
The three listings can be found here, here, and here.
