Google Nexus One

Motorola’s CEO has apparently confirmed that the company is working on a Google-branded device, similar to the HTC-made Nexus One. Speaking as part of the company’s quarterly financial results call, chief executive Sanjay Jha revealed that Motorola were indeed developing a “direct to consumer device with Google”.

According to TheStreet.com, the move was revealed in a conference call earlier today with Motorola co-CEO Sanjay Jha, who said the to-be-named device would be one of 20 smartphones the company releases this year. At this point, it’s not clear which carrier, if any, will offer a subsidy on the device.

The move doesn’t come as much of a surprise — when Google debuted the Nexus One with HTC earlier this month, they indicated it wouldn’t be the only phone in which they worked directly with a manufacturer and sold the device direct to consumers via the Web.
